Born and raised in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, William Carrington has worked as a public servant for for over 20 years. He started his career as one "New York's Strongest" in the NYC Department of Sanitation, taking pride in keeping the streets in our Community clean. He later transitioned to the New York Transit Authority as a Bus Driver, getting the community wherever they needed to go whether rain, sleet or snow! This would just be the beginning of Bill's long career as a public servant.
After working as a Bus driver, Bill joined "New Yorks Finest", the NYC Police Department. Officer Carrington earned numerous awards, merits of commendation, and media support for his exemplary work in the community before retiring after 20 years of public service. During his tenure Bill was also a P.B.A Union and Guardian delegate.
Bill sat on Bedford Stuyvesant's Community Board 3 for many years while working as a Civil servant. Bill was instrumental in voting for projects he forsaw to bring revenue and jobs to our Community. Bill also served as President for the Aajj Malik El Shabazz Macon Street Block Association. Whether it was as a Sanitation Worker, Bus Driver, Police Officer or a Community Worker, Bill has always been focused on improving life for our Community.
Over the years, Bill has implemented several young men and women's Basketball teams in the neighborhood to help our children to stay physically fit, focus on their future and to stay off of the streets. Through these activities they learn teamwork, build friendships and can focus on building a brighter future for themselves and the Community! A family man, Bill currently resides in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn and is Married with three Children.
